Meghan LeBorious presents 'What Echoes in Me', a meditation on the cultural meanings of blood, a substance that is both mythical and mundane.
'Reflecting on Blood', an atmospheric, interactive installation, is based on a series of dinner parties held by the artist during which she asked guests to speak on tape about their experiences with blood. These narratives are symbolically represented by glasses of wine suspended from the ceiling. Infused with red light, each glass tells a story: birth, trauma, mortality, eroticism, disease, family, vulnerability, accident and vitality. These themes are further explored in sculpture and drawing.
The artwork in What Echoes in Me was inspired by the rush to give blood following the events of September 11, 2001 in New York City.
